Model Jasmin Shojai calls for surgery tax break

Model Jasmin Shojai calls for surgery tax break

A CONTROVERSIAL call for models to have tax-deductible cosmetic surgery has recieved the thumbs down in Queensland.

Top glamour model Jasmin Shojai said at least half the country’s models have procedures to enhance their looks and secure work and called for some tax perks.

But Gold Coast Instagram model Prue Baxter insists most in the industry believe good nutrition, exercise and staying out of the sun will prolong their careers, not the surgeon’s chair.

“It is a bad message to send out that you can only be successful if you adhere to a certain look. I see where the call is coming from, it is a tough industry, but this is not the answer.

“Most of the girls I know are proud to have different looks and bodies,” Ms Baxter said.

“I had a boob job long before I started in the industry for personal reasons. I would never do it just to land a job,” she said.

Ms Shojai has admitted to having jawline contouring, dermal filler in her cheeks, lips and chin and some Botox. Next week she will have her own blood injected back into her face.

“Obviously it’s not essential for models to undergo any of these procedures but having them done definitely helps you look your best by enhancing your features, and therefore should be tax deductible,” Ms Shojai said.

“Some models overdo it and end up looking too plastic. In fact, many women end up looking this way, not just models. This is the wrong use of cosmetic surgery,” she said.

Dr John Flynn, cosmetic surgeon and spokesman for the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery, said it was never a good idea to send out the message cosmetic surgery was necessary in order to have a successful career.

“There are many industries where it is important to present well, not just the modelling industry. Cosmetic procedures need to a personal decision and carefully considered,” he said.
